Effective January 1, 2001 REALTORS are required to complete REALTORS Code of Ethics Training of not less than two hours and 30 minutes of instructional time. Each cycle previously ran every four years. As of 2017, Code of Ethics is required every two years.
PLEASE NOTE: The current cycle runs from January 1, 2017 - December 31, 2018. Also, note that this is NOT a State of Rhode Island requirement for license renewal, it is a National Association of REALTORS requirement for ALL members.
You can verify whether or not you have already taken the required coursework by signing into NAR.realtor and following these steps:
1) Click on *My Account* and then *Manage Account* in the upper right corner
2) Under *Other Links*, click *View Your Education Record (NRDS)*
3) Click on *View My Education Records*
4) Look for the course code COEC 2017C5 or COEC 2018C5
You can also verify by contacting NAR at 800-874-6500 or ContactNAR@realtors.org.
If you have not fulfilled the requirement already, you can visit this page on NARs website to take one of the online versions by Dec. 31. When you complete NARs online course, your NRDs records will be updated accordingly. Those members who take a course other than NARs online version will need to contact NCBR to have their record updated.
If you still need to fulfill this requirement, you can do one of the following:
*Take NARs online version of the course. You will need to create an account (username and password) if you do not already have one.
*Keep an eye out for COE classes at NCBR and RIAR
*Obtain the list of approved Real Estate Schools from the Department of Business Regulations and contact schools in your area for availability of this course.
